Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is een van de grootste Pakistaanse zangers van qawwali-muziek. Hij is opgeleid door zijn oom en qawwali-legende Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, en afkomstig uit een familie met een qawwali-achtergrond die zo’n 600 jaar teruggaat. Naast qawwali zingt hij ook zijn grootste Bollywood-hits.

Qawwali is de religieuze muziek van de soefi’s, afkomstig uit Pakistan. Het genre ontstond in de tiende eeuw uit het samensmelten van Perzische en Centraal-Aziatische poëzie met Noord-Indiase muzikale elementen.

Met meer dan 50 albums, meer dan 50 titelsongs voor tv-series en meer dan 100 film songs en tientallen hits in de afgelopen jaren, geldt de stem van Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan als troef voor een succesvolle Bollywood-film. Nog altijd scoort hij hits met nummers voor de grootste Bollywood-producties. Niet alleen in India, maar wereldwijd.

In 2002 he worked on the soundtrack of The Four Feathers in collaboration with the American composer of orchestral and film music, James Horner.
